The new review also includes the data from eleven observation studies. These do not provide new information on the extent to which e-cigarettes support a planned smoke stop. However, according to Hartmann-Boyce and her colleagues, these investigations indicated that there is no serious side-effects for a maximum of two-year use of e-cigarettes. The subjects most frequently reported irritations in the mouth and throat - which, however, usually disappeared after some time.

"The vapor of the e-juice contained in the e-cigarettes is ten to six hundred times less toxic than the smoke of a tobacco cigarette, depending on the method of investigation". This is mainly due to the fact that thousands of health-damaging, often carcinogenic substances are produced during the combustion of tobacco.

"Smokers use cigarettes mainly because of nicotine, but they die from the combustion products." Compared to tobacco smoke, the number of substances emitted from an e-cigarette is rather low.

 Contra: In a guideline of the scientific medical specialists on the topic "Screening, diagnostics and treatment of the harmful and dependent tobacco consumption" the e-cigarette is expressly not recommended for tobacco cessation.

 Do E-cigarettes help at least reduce the number of smoked tobacco cigarettes?

Pro: Yes. A study from the UK, the United States, Canada and Australia has shown that smokers using e-cigarettes are more likely to reduce their consumption of tobacco.

Contra: It remains unclear whether those smokers who have participated in studies so far have not brought a greater willingness to reduce their consumption. The number of alleged smoked cigarettes in an earlier survey of the Cochrane Collaboration is based on self-report. Their meaningfulness is regarded as low. Although 67 percent of respondents say they have tried e-cigarettes to smoke less or give up completely, only 21 percent say they have actually reduced their consumption.

 Are e-cigarettes an entry point for non-smokers, especially among young people?

Pro: It is unclear whether nicotine vapor subsequently leads to tobacco smoking. Without sufficient number of students, not all the influencing factors that can be jointly responsible, for example social milieu, personal characteristics and contact with advertising can be calculated. A causal relationship has not been established.

Cons: Young people E-cigarette users are at a higher risk of catching tobacco products than young people who have never steamed. The more likely they were to get a liquid, the more likely they were to become strong smokers six months later (defined by at least three smokers a week and more than two cigarettes per day).

You see: The opponents have a little more to advance. But one also sees: the study situation is thin. In the Internet, it is sworn with claims that are passed on unchecked. Because most of the electric vaporizers come from China and are charged via USB connections, for example, a rumor lasted that this would pollute computers with Chinese malicious software. A number of these apparatuses arrive in a similarly dubious manner among the people, as the liquid, which is scarcely explained more closely, the ambitious steamers gladly mix themselves together in order to produce the requisite fool.

The e-cigarette now wants to free the smuggling litter of the tobacco giant Philip Morris. A poster campaign has been running for months in selected German cities, which advertises a product called Iqos. This is a completely new way of enjoying tobacco, without fire, without ashes. The customer is welcomed by young salespeople, gets a short introductory course and can then purchase a device for the format and design of a smartphone, which has a rechargeable holder, a so-called "Heet-Stick" of half the size Cigarette and heating it to about three hundred degrees. You can suck a dozen times, then the fun is over again.
